Chinchilla is a fast growing town based in the heart of the Western Downs in the Surat Basin, about 3.5 hours drive west of Brisbane.
Famous for it's Melon Fest in February every second year (next 2019) and also the Petrified Wood which dates back to the Jurassic period about 140 to 180 million years ago.
The name of the town comes from the Aboriginal word "jinchilla" ----the word for the termite resistant Cypress Pine.
